About Me

Anita Kalathara (she/her) is a multi-hyphenate writer/filmmaker/actress whose first short film as a writer and producer, Arranged, starring Rizwan Manji (Schitt’s Creek) screened at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, and Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival. After she wrote and produced a “no budget” fan film, Kamala, a Ms. Marvel fan film starring Richa Shukla (Never Have I Ever, Fargo), which was featured on The Daily Dot, ComicBook.com, and GeekTyrant. It was the first portrayal of Ms. Marvel before the live-action show was released.

Anita also wrote, directed, produced, and starred in Unfair & Lovely, led to a feature on Buzzfeed India, and went viral amassing over 150,000 views on its YouTube release.

She's been featured on podcasts, including the Live Fearlessly podcast, and Down to Brown, and a recent interview with Psychology Today. Since shifting to focus on writing features, she’s placed quarterfinalist on her first feature Something To Prove on the TSL Screenplay Contest, and the script is currently ranked top 21% of all projects on Coverfly. Sundari is her third written feature. Anita loves creating characters and telling stories of atypical women who follow unique paths and defy cultural and societal limitations. As an actress you can catch her in the film India Sweets & Spices (Hulu), which made its world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival, and season three of Doom Patrol (HBO Max). She's also the voice of the first South Asian troll in Dreamworks' Trollstopia and of Kavi Sharma, first South Asian American Girl Doll in the animated series. When she’s not writing badass projects, she’s hunting for the best fried chicken in town. She has completely disappointed her Indian doctor/lawyer parents and is proud of it.
